18 Apr 2008 - Newsletter 14
Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,
Hello everyone. Hope you’re all well and have had an enjoyable start to the Summer term. All is going well in school.
I wanted to let you know about new links we have developed with our PCSOs, (Police Community Support Officers): Ben (Sutcliffe), Ryan (
They have already been involved in:
- sorting out dog mess (with Councillor Smith) and parking problems around the school locality,
- attending assembly to introduce themselves,
- supporting staff with pupil and parent issues
- teaching tag rugby and accompanying the children to a competition.
So already we have much to thank them for. We look forward to many further joint initiatives.
Ryan has offered to begin to run Cycling Proficiency Courses from Kinson. This is something that we have been trying to organise for a few years since Sue Smith became too unwell to do it. Children must be 10 or over to do this certificate. Because many secondary schools require this paperwork before pupils are allowed to cycle to school, we intend to organise that as many Year 6s as possible who can do the course during the summer term.
On the subject of pupil bikes in school – the bike racks have been installed to encourage staff to use bicycles as transport to school in order to ease car parking problems. If pupils have a Cycling Proficiency certificate, they are also able to use them. Unfortunately we are now getting lots of smaller bikes and scooters being brought into school which are causing us problems. We cannot be responsible for the safety of under 10s who are using these on our school grounds. There have been a few near accidents on the playgrounds before and after school when children and adults have been run into by these wheeled hazards flying around!
Thank you for your consideration.
Best wishes
Liz, staff and the governors
MRS LYNDA FORD-HORNE
Lynda has just had a very big birthday (…shhh!). She has therefore decided that after 20 years working at Kinson, she is now ready to take the leap into the next exciting phase of her life. Lynda is going to retire at the end of the summer term. She has worked tirelessly for Kinson and we are really sorry to lose her; however, we are delighted for her to be starting her retirement in September
with such good health, vitality and excitement.
Any contributions towards her leaving present should be addressed to the school office.
PARENT GOVERNOR REQUIRED
Please contact Mrs Thomasson to express an interest and the Chairman of Governors to find out more info.
HOT MEALS ORDERING Please bear in mind when ordering hot meals next Monday that Thursday 1st May and Friday 2nd May are INSET days and the children will not be in school so you do not need to order hot meals for those days. SATs TESTS WEEKS
No schools can give authorised absence to pupils for Year 6 SATS week, so please don’t book any holidays etc. It is also very important to our results that all children attend school during this week as absent children are included in percentages as having failed, so their absence reflects badly on overall school scores for Kinson.
In 2009 these dates are Monday 11th May – Friday 15th May (Key Stage 2).
The Year 2 and the Y3, 4, 5 Optional SATS take place throughout the month of May and it is important that your children do not miss these.
Thanks for your support in this.
