Kinson Promotes Success

16 May 2008 - Newsletter 16

Dear All,

The Governing Body have asked me to remind all parents that their children’s school attendance and punctuality are your responsibility.

If children are genuinely ill or have a medical appointment that cannot be made outside school hours, then obviously they need not be in school. However, constant lates (that after 10 minutes count as 1 absence sessions) disrupt learning and damage Kinson attendance figures. If parents themselves are ill and say they cannot get children here, we are not able to authorise pupils’ time out of school. We would request that if your child feels unwell first thing in the morning, we would be very pleased to see them if they feel better during the day.

Absences for funerals of close relatives are allowed but not birthday treats I’m afraid. Legally children must be in school on school days – staff also have to work on their birthdays too.

Children are allowed to take up to a maximum of 10 school days per academic year but there must be a very good reason why they are missing 20 registrations. National newspapers who do cheap deals for weeks such as SATs week when no child can be given authorise absence are being put under pressure from the government to end this nonsense. It is the ‘law of the land’ that all children are in school for 380 registrations i.e. 190 school days and parents/carers are responsible to ensure this. Penalties awarded by the Educational Welfare Service are £50 per day per child for persistent offenders.

Kinson levels of absence are getting worse. The government and Local Authority expect 95% attendance as the primary school target. We never achieve this.

Please think carefully about any absence your child has from school. Thank you.

Kind regards,

Mrs Liz Thomasson

WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK 19TH – 23RD MAY 2008

We would like to encourage as many children (and their parents) to walk to school
during next week. Let’s think about:

Our health, carbon emissions, safety, being sociable.

Even if you can’t walk the whole way why not make a park and walk effort – you might enjoy it. HAPPY WALKING. (Let’s hope the weather helps!).

Thank you to the Breakfast Club staff, and extra helpers, for all their hard work this
week (and every week). It was a particularly busy week as some Year 6 children joined
in Breakfast Club before taking their SATs tests. The hard work of the Breakfast Club
staff was much appreciated.

The last date for collecting Tesco for Schools Vouchers will be Wednesday 18th June -to date we have collected 17,000 -well done Lets try to exceed last years total of 20,000-I hope to get some licences to extend the RM maths programme that creates an individual teaching programme for all children -these licences would cost the school approximately £800 if we bought them!
