Kinson Promotes Success

18 Jul 2008 - Newsletter 20

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am sure that you have heard about the terrible SATs fiasco for KS2. Thank goodness at Kinson we have not been messed about too much. We have had all the SATs returned to us.

I am proud to say that all our targets have been achieved. Science has excellent results; Maths is very good as are the Reading results. The Writing grade is not as we had hoped but we are challenging quite a few of the writing papers as we doubt the standard of marking is high enough. English overall is good, so the standards published should be quite pleasing.

Fortunately, we have not had the huge problems that other schools have faced!

We are really sad to say goodbye to Mrs Ford-Horne and would like to thank her for working tirelessly for the school for over twenty years. Happy Retirement, Lynda. We would also like to thank Miss Jo Jowett and Miss Gemma Kerley and wish them much success.

And finally, thank you for all your support in this school year; we have had a successful year at Kinson in many ways. Your children have been an absolute credit to you. We finish at 1.45 pm on Tuesday and return on Wednesday 3rd September.

Enjoy a wonderful summer break. Best Wishes,

Liz, the staff and the Governors

HOT MEALS: – I have today met with Gary from Cygnet Foods who produce our hot meals to specify exactly what we require in terms of future quality and quantity.

I am sure that the Autumn term menu will be really good. Each meal is a perfect healthy balance according to government guidance. Nearly 100 children are enjoying a free school meal each day. Also those who buy a meal for £2 are getting wonderful value and excellent nutrition. Please order them for your children. You are welcome to come in for a tasting session if you wish. Thanks. Liz Thomasson

Hot Meals Ordering Reminder– Please place hot meals orders for 3rd September, 4th, 5th and week commencing 8th September 2008 on Monday 21st July. Thanks. Mrs Emma Miller

Tesco vouchers: A thank you from Mrs Newman

A fantastic effort! Thank you to all the people who collected Tesco vouchers this year – 24,312 vouchers counted and 1,385 have been gained from recycling phones and ink cartridges. About £1,200 worth of ICT software has been ordered - Six RM Maths licences, a control ‘Bee bot’ and 2 grids to use this item with. If you have outstanding vouchers, we can still send them in until 20th September. This will count towards next years ‘Computers for Schools’ fund-raising effort. Thank you again!

We would like to extend our sympathies to the families of sharrina robbins  (colemans) & Rachel gowenlock (browns)  for their sad loss this term

Our  thoughts will be with them throughout the summer holidays

The collection for the Unit 3 Production, ‘The Children of the Sun’ came to a grand total of £165.92. This money will be going to the charity Leukaemia Busters. Thank you so much everyone!

SUMMER FETE & CARBOOT - A big thank you to those that supported the PFA Summer Fete on Saturday by either helping out or attending.  Due to the bad weather earlier in the week and a flooded field, we had to make some final hour changes but all in all the day went well.  We believe we have made a profit of approximately £1000.00, so well done to all of you that supported this event.
