5 Sep 2008 - Newsletter 1

Hello Everyone,

Welcome back to the new school year 2008 - 09. Where does the time go?

I hope you had a good Summer despite the weather.  Sorry to even mention the ‘W’ word….. but where’s the Indian Summer we were promised?  I was hoping we could continue to use the field during September but there’s little chance of that!  Ah well….

Early Years Building – this is on track and starting to look good.  So sorry for any inconvenience caused to you when dropping off or collecting children.  Please bear with us.  It will be completely ready for our littlies to start on the 25th (hopefully).

Safeguarding Children – As the Child Protection Officer, one of my key roles is to risk assess the safety of all of our pupils.  I’d like to make it clear that there are no times when workmen are in contact with our pupils without supervision.  If they need to walk through school, they are accompanied and staff are vigilant supervising them in the playgrounds.  If you have any concerns about child protection, please speak to me, Mrs Jones – my deputy, or Tracy Kerley – Pastoral Support, in complete confidence.

Bicycles and scooters – We currently have 2 bike racks in the playgrounds. The one at the School Lane front entrance is just for staff use. The one on the back of our school (Kinson Road side) may also be used by pupils who ride to school providing that:

  • they are already aged 10 or older,
  • they have a Cycling Proficiency certificate and
  • they wear cycle helmets and high visibility jackets/tabards.

No other bikes or scooters may be left on school premises whatsoever.

The majority of children have come back ready to learn and eager to do their best. A credit to you!

Can I please remind you that pupils need to have sensible and appropriate hairstyles, clothing and shoes for school? They can keep their fashion gear and funky hair-dos for weekend and holidays…we are here to concentrate on learning together, developing skills and becoming good citizens.

With kind regards,

Liz Thomasson

SCHOOL NURSE DROP-IN – The new date for the next School Nurse drop in, Alison Mathiot, is Tuesday 9th September. You can come in and see her from 9.00 – 9.30 am. Thanks.

Year 6 parents – Your child will hopefully be bringing home today an envelope with their Secondary Transfer information. Please have a read through at your earliest convenience. Thanks.

INSET DAY – Just to let you know that the possible INSET day for the 5th January 2009 is now definitely an INSET day, so the children will not be in school that day. Many thanks.
