Welcome to Kinson Playgroup

The Playgroup is for children aged 3 to 5 years.

They learn: 

To share and play with other children

To trust new adults and accept new situations

To experiment with all sorts of materials and activities

To express themselves in many different ways

To develop their language skills

To work things out

To do things for themselves

The children are encouraged to explore and learn from different materials, such as water, paint, glue and playdough.

It is important that children learn for themselves and at their own pace, so we support and encourage, but resist the temptation to be over helpful.

Our Playgroup was established in 1976 by a group of mothers and has been run by Mrs Jeanette Smith for many years.

In June 2004, Kinson Playgroup underwent a National Standards Inspection. We feel that the extracts given below will give you a flavour of what the full report contains.

 "The pre-school provides a welcoming child friendly environment. The staff use the space creatively ensuring children have space to move and play freely, this also includes the outside area."

"Children's behaviour is very good, they show consideration for adults and other children, and share particularly well with their peers in their play."

"They are enthusiastic, and highly motivated in their learning."

Kinson Playgroup are fully accredited members of Bournemouth Quality Standards for Early Education and Care.

The Playgroup also supplies provision for children with Special Educational Needs.

Policies covering management, equality, behaviour, child protection etc, are required and these are available for inspection. They are reviewed and updated annually by the Playgroup Committee.

Although we are lucky enough to use premises on the Kinson   Primary School site, we must emphasise that we are completely separate.

If your child attends Playgroup, it does not automatically make him/her eligible for the school. Bournemouth Borough Council will give a school information booklet and preference form to you, via Playgroup, midway through the autumn term.

As a member of the P.S.L.A., we hold an Annual General Meeting every October. All parents are invited and we always need new Committee Members, who also become Trustees. The Committee is a very important part of Playgroup, so please feel welcome to attend the A.G.M. so that you can become a part of it. Without the Committee Playgroup could not exist, so please give us your support.
